Now therefore arise, go out, and speak to comfort your servants; for I swear by Yahweh, if you don’t go out, not a man will stay with you this night. That would be worse to you than all the evil that has happened to you from your youth until now.”

¶Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. They told to all the people, saying, “Behold, the king is sitting in the gate.” All the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.

All the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he has fled out of the land from Absalom.

202Sm 19:1920καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα μὴ διαλογισάσθω ὁ κύριός μου ἀνομίαν καὶ μὴ μνησθῇς ὅσα ἠδίκησεν ὁ παῖς σου ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ᾗ ὁ κύριός μου ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐξεπορεύετο ἐξ Ιερουσαλημ τοῦ θέσθαι τὸν βασιλέα εἰς τὴν καρδίαν αὐτοῦ2Sm 19:19
He said to the king, “Don’t let my lord impute iniquity to me, neither do you remember that which your servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

¶But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered, “Shall Shimei not be put to death for this, because he cursed Yahweh’s anointed?”

The king said to Shimei, “You shall not die.” The king swore to him.

It happened, when he had come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said to him, “Why didn’t you go with me, Mephibosheth?”
2Sm 19:262Sm 19:26וַיְהִ֛י כִּי־בָ֥א יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם לִקְרַ֣את הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לָ֛מָּה לֹא־הָלַ֥כְתָּ עִמִּ֖י מְפִיבֹֽשֶׁת׃2Sm 19:25
It happened, when he had come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said to him, “Why didn’t you go with me, Mephibosheth?”
272Sm 19:2627καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Μεμφιβοσθε κύριέ μου βασιλεῦ ὁ δοῦλός μου παρελογίσατό με ὅτι εἶπεν ὁ παῖς σου αὐτῷ ἐπίσαξόν μοι τὴν ὄνον καὶ ἐπιβῶ ἐπ’ αὐτὴν καὶ πορεύσομαι μετὰ τοῦ βασιλέως ὅτι χωλὸς ὁ δοῦλός σου2Sm 19:26
¶He answered, “My lord, O king, my servant deceived me. For your servant said, I will saddle me a donkey, that I may ride thereon, and go with the king; because your servant is lame.
2Sm 19:272Sm 19:27וַיֹּאמַ֕ר אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ עַבְדִּ֣י רִמָּ֑נִי כִּֽי־אָמַ֨ר עַבְדְּךָ֜ אֶחְבְּשָׁה־לִּי֩ הַחֲמ֨וֹר וְאֶרְכַּ֤ב עָלֶ֙יהָ֙ וְאֵלֵ֣ךְ אֶת־הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ כִּ֥י פִסֵּ֖חַ עַבְדֶּֽךָ׃2Sm 19:26

He has slandered your servant to my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God. Do therefore what is good in your eyes.
2Sm 19:282Sm 19:28וַיְרַגֵּ֣ל בְּעַבְדְּךָ֔ אֶל־אֲדֹנִ֖י הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַאדֹנִ֤י הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ כְּמַלְאַ֣ךְ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וַעֲשֵׂ֥ה הַטּ֖וֹב בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ׃2Sm 19:27

For all my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king; yet you set your servant among those who ate at your own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should cry any more to the king?”

¶The king said to him, “Why do you speak any more of your matters? I say, you and Ziba divide the land.”

¶Mephibosheth said to the king, “Yes, let him take all, because my lord the king has come in peace to his own house.”

¶Mephibosheth said to the king, “Yes, let him take all, because my lord the king has come in peace to his own house.”
322Sm 19:3132καὶ Βερζελλι ὁ Γαλααδίτης κατέβη ἐκ Ρωγελλιμ καὶ διέβη μετὰ τοῦ βασιλέως τὸν Ιορδάνην ἐκπέμψαι αὐτὸν τὸν Ιορδάνην2Sm 19:31
Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over the Jordan with the king, to conduct him over the Jordan.
2Sm 19:322Sm 19:32וּבַרְזִלַּי֙ הַגִּלְעָדִ֔י יָרַ֖ד מֵרֹגְלִ֑ים וַיַּעֲבֹ֤ר אֶת־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן לְשַׁלְּח֖וֹ אֶת־‏{ בירדן הַיַּרְדֵּֽן׃ }‏

332Sm 19:3233καὶ Βερζελλι ἀνὴρ πρεσβύτερος σφόδρα υἱὸς ὀγδοήκοντα ἐτῶν καὶ αὐτὸς διέθρεψεν τὸν βασιλέα ἐν τῷ οἰκεῖν αὐτὸν ἐν Μαναϊμ ὅτι ἀνὴρ μέγας ἐστὶν σφόδρα2Sm 19:32
Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even eighty years old: and he had provided the king with sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.
2Sm 19:332Sm 19:33וּבַרְזִלַּי֙ זָקֵ֣ן מְאֹ֔ד בֶּן־שְׁמֹנִ֖ים שָׁנָ֑ה וְהֽוּא־כִלְכַּ֤ל אֶת־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ בְּשִׁיבָת֣וֹ בְמַחֲנַ֔יִם כִּֽי־אִ֛ישׁ גָּד֥וֹל ה֖וּא מְאֹֽד׃2Sm 19:32
Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even eighty years old: and he had provided the king with sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.
342Sm 19:3334καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς Βερζελλι σὺ διαβήσῃ μετ’ ἐμοῦ καὶ διαθρέψω τὸ γῆράς σου μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐν Ιερουσαλημ2Sm 19:33
The king said to Barzillai, “Come over with me, and I will sustain you with me in Jerusalem.”
2Sm 19:342Sm 19:34וַיֹּ֥אמֶר הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶל־בַּרְזִלָּ֑י אַתָּה֙ עֲבֹ֣ר אִתִּ֔י וְכִלְכַּלְתִּ֥י אֹתְךָ֛ עִמָּדִ֖י בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃2Sm 19:33
The king said to Barzillai, “Come over with me, and I will sustain you with me in Jerusalem.”
352Sm 19:3435καὶ εἶπεν Βερζελλι πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα πόσαι ἡμέραι ἐτῶν ζωῆς μου ὅτι ἀναβήσομαι μετὰ τοῦ βασιλέως εἰς Ιερουσαλημ2Sm 19:34
Barzillai said to the king, “How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?
2Sm 19:352Sm 19:35וַיֹּ֥אמֶר בַּרְזִלַּ֖י אֶל־הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ כַּמָּ֗ה יְמֵי֙ שְׁנֵ֣י חַיַּ֔י כִּי־אֶעֱלֶ֥ה אֶת־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃2Sm 19:34
Barzillai said to the king, “How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?
362Sm 19:3536υἱὸς ὀγδοήκοντα ἐτῶν ἐγώ εἰμι σήμερον μὴ γνώσομαι ἀνὰ μέσον ἀγαθοῦ καὶ κακοῦ ἢ γεύσεται ὁ δοῦλός σου ἔτι ὃ φάγομαι ἢ πίομαι ἢ ἀκούσομαι ἔτι φωνὴν ᾀδόντων καὶ ᾀδουσῶν ἵνα τί ἔσται ἔτι ὁ δοῦλός σου εἰς φορτίον ἐπὶ τὸν κύριόν μου τὸν βασιλέα2Sm 19:35
I am this day eighty years old. Can I discern between good and bad? Can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? Why then should your servant be yet a burden to my lord the king?
2Sm 19:362Sm 19:36בֶּן־שְׁמֹנִ֣ים שָׁנָה֩ אָנֹכִ֨י הַיּ֜וֹם הַאֵדַ֣ע ׀ בֵּין־ט֣וֹב לְרָ֗ע אִם־יִטְעַ֤ם עַבְדְּךָ֙ אֶת־אֲשֶׁ֤ר אֹכַל֙ וְאֶת־אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶשְׁתֶּ֔ה אִם־אֶשְׁמַ֣ע ע֔וֹד בְּק֖וֹל שָׁרִ֣ים וְשָׁר֑וֹת וְלָמָּה֩ יִֽהְיֶ֨ה עַבְדְּךָ֥ עוֹד֙ לְמַשָּׂ֔א אֶל־אֲדֹנִ֖י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃2Sm 19:35

372Sm 19:3637ὡς βραχὺ διαβήσεται ὁ δοῦλός σου τὸν Ιορδάνην μετὰ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἵνα τί ἀνταποδίδωσίν μοι ὁ βασιλεὺς τὴν ἀνταπόδοσιν ταύτην2Sm 19:36
Your servant would but just go over the Jordan with the king. Why should the king repay me with such a reward?
2Sm 19:372Sm 19:37כִּמְעַ֞ט יַעֲבֹ֧ר עַבְדְּךָ֛ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן אֶת־הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וְלָ֙מָּה֙ יִגְמְלֵ֣נִי הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ הַגְּמוּלָ֖ה הַזֹּֽאת׃2Sm 19:36
Your servant would but just go over the Jordan with the king. Why should the king repay me with such a reward?
382Sm 19:3738καθισάτω δὴ ὁ δοῦλός σου καὶ ἀποθανοῦμαι ἐν τῇ πόλει μου παρὰ τῷ τάφῳ τοῦ πατρός μου καὶ τῆς μητρός μου καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ δοῦλός σου Χαμααμ διαβήσεται μετὰ τοῦ κυρίου μου τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ποίησον αὐτῷ τὸ ἀγαθὸν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου2Sm 19:37
Please let your servant turn back again, that I may die in my own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, your servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good to you.”

Please let your servant turn back again, that I may die in my own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, your servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good to you.”
392Sm 19:3839καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς μετ’ ἐμοῦ διαβήτω Χαμααμ κἀγὼ ποιήσω αὐτῷ τὸ ἀγαθὸν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου καὶ πάντα ὅσα ἐκλέξῃ ἐπ’ ἐμοί ποιήσω σοι2Sm 19:38
¶The king answered, “Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good to you. Whatever you require of me, that I will do for you.”

¶All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, “Because the king is a close relative to us. Why then are you angry about this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king’s cost? Or has he given us any gift?”

¶The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, “We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more claim to David than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?” The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
