a Gk. ἀνὰ μέσον...ἀνὰ μέσον. Similarly, see Gn. 3:15. Rhys Laverty, The Jewish Background of the New Testament: Both the New Testament and the Septuagint contain Semitisms.... Greek normally would not repeat ἀνὰ μέσον (between) twice, but the LXX does so in over-literal conformity to the Hebrew bên...ubên (between X and between Y, meaning between X and Y).
b First there was darkness, then there was light, then there was both.

———
a Gk. ἐχαγαγέτω τὰ ὕδατα ἑρπετὰ ψυχῶν ζωσῶν, let the waters bring forth creeping things [ἑρπετόν] among living [ζάω] creatures [ψυχός]; for Hb. "let the water teem with living creatures." The problem with the LXX Greek translation is it implies that the waters birthed ("brought forth") land-based and flying animals, which is not what the Hebrew says, which says "let the waters teem" and "let the winged creatures fly". In context of the waters, ἑρπετὰ ψυχῶν ζωσῶν must be understood as aquatic life distinct from ἑρπετὰ τῶν ἐρπετῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς (land-based invertebrates and small "crawling" vertebrates, which are later "brought forth" by the land in 1:24) and ἐρπετὰ τῶν πετεινῶν (winged invertebrates [spec. insects]); and the skies rather than the waters "brought forth" the flying creatures.
b Cf. ἑρπετὰ ψυχῶν ζωσῶν [ζάω, to live] in 1:20; ψυχὴν ζῴων ἑρπετῶν [ζῷον, living being] in 1:21; and ψυχὴν ζωῆς [ζωή, life] in 1:30. (ψυχη is more or less 'our' life [as in, whoever loves or hates his life]; ζωη is life itself [as in, eternal life].)
c Gk. ἐρπτόν, "crawling" thing; includes invertebrates (which includes insects, both winged and non-winged) and small, "crawling" vertebrates (which includes weasels, mice, lizards, ferrets, chameleons, evets, newts, and moles [per Lv. 11:29-30], but not bats [per Lv. 11:19]).
d Gk. πετεινόν, winged or flying things, is generally inclusive of birds (ὄρνεον), bats (νυκτερίς) [per Dt. 14:18 and Lv. 11:19], and winged insects (τὰ ἑρπετὰ τῶν πετεινῶν [the invertebrates of the winged things]) [per Dt. 14:19 and Lv. 11:20], but is limited in 1:21 to "feathered" winged things.
