¶In those days was Hezekiah sick and near death. Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him, and said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Set your house in order, for you will die, and not live.’”
Is 38:1Is 38:1בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֔ם חָלָ֥ה חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ לָמ֑וּת וַיָּב֣וֹא אֵ֠לָיו יְשַׁעְיָ֨הוּ בֶן־אָמ֜וֹץ הַנָּבִ֗יא וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֜יו כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ צַ֣ו לְבֵיתֶ֔ךָ כִּ֛י מֵ֥ת אַתָּ֖ה וְלֹ֥א תִֽחְיֶֽה׃Is 38:1
¶In those days was Hezekiah sick and near death. Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him, and said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Set your house in order, for you will die, and not live.’”

¶Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to Yahweh,
Is 38:2Is 38:2וַיַּסֵּ֧ב חִזְקִיָּ֛הוּ פָּנָ֖יו אֶל־הַקִּ֑יר וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֖ל אֶל־יְהוָֽה׃Is 38:2
¶Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to Yahweh,
3Is 38:33Is 38:3
and said, “Remember now, Yahweh, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight.” Hezekiah wept bitterly.
Is 38:3Is 38:3וַיֹּאמַ֗ר אָנָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ זְכָר־נָ֞א אֵ֣ת אֲשֶׁ֧ר הִתְהַלַּ֣כְתִּי לְפָנֶ֗יךָ בֶּֽאֱמֶת֙ וּבְלֵ֣ב שָׁלֵ֔ם וְהַטּ֥וֹב בְּעֵינֶ֖יךָ עָשִׂ֑יתִי וַיֵּ֥בְךְּ חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ בְּכִ֥י גָדֽוֹל׃ ס Is 38:3

¶Then the word of Yahweh came to Isaiah, saying,
Is 38:4Is 38:4וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהוָ֔ה אֶֽל־יְשַׁעְיָ֖הוּ לֵאמֹֽר׃Is 38:4
¶Then the word of Yahweh came to Isaiah, saying,

“Go, and tell Hezekiah, ‘Thus says Yahweh, the God of David your father, “I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.
Is 38:5Is 38:5הָל֞וֹךְ וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֶל־חִזְקִיָּ֗הוּ כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵי֙ דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֔יךָ שָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙ אֶת־תְּפִלָּתֶ֔ךָ רָאִ֖יתִי אֶת־דִּמְעָתֶ֑ךָ הִנְנִי֙ יוֹסִ֣ף עַל־יָמֶ֔יךָ חֲמֵ֥שׁ עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה שָׁנָֽה׃Is 38:5
“Go, and tell Hezekiah, ‘Thus says Yahweh, the God of David your father, “I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.
6Is 38:66Is 38:6
I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city.
Is 38:6Is 38:6וּמִכַּ֤ף מֶֽלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּר֙ אַצִּ֣ילְךָ֔ וְאֵ֖ת הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֑את וְגַנּוֹתִ֖י עַל־הָעִ֥יר הַזֹּֽאת׃Is 38:6
I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city.
7Is 38:77Is 38:7
This shall be the sign to you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do this thing that he has spoken.
Is 38:7Is 38:7וְזֶה־לְּךָ֥ הָא֖וֹת מֵאֵ֣ת יְהוָ֑ה אֲשֶׁר֙ יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֵּֽר׃Is 38:7
This shall be the sign to you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do this thing that he has spoken.
8Is 38:88Is 38:8
Behold, I will cause the shadow on the sundial, which has gone down on the sundial of Ahaz with the sun, to return backward ten steps. So the sun returned ten steps on the sundial on which it had gone down.”’”
Is 38:8Is 38:8הִנְנִ֣י מֵשִׁ֣יב אֶת־צֵ֣ל הַֽמַּעֲל֡וֹת אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָרְדָה֩ בְמַעֲל֨וֹת אָחָ֥ז בַּשֶּׁ֛מֶשׁ אֲחֹרַנִּ֖ית עֶ֣שֶׂר מַעֲל֑וֹת וַתָּ֤שָׁב הַשֶּׁ֙מֶשׁ֙ עֶ֣שֶׂר מַעֲל֔וֹת בַּֽמַּעֲל֖וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָרָֽדָה׃ ס Is 38:8

¶The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and had recovered of his sickness.

¶The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and had recovered of his sickness.
10Is 38:1010ἐγὼ εἶπα ἐν τῷ ὕψει τῶν ἡμερῶν μου πορεύσομαι ἐν πύλαις ᾅδου καταλείψω τὰ ἔτη τὰ ἐπίλοιπαIs 38:10
I said, “In the middle of my life I go into the gates of Sheol.
I am deprived of the residue of my years.”
Is 38:10Is 38:10אֲנִ֣י אָמַ֗רְתִּי בִּדְמִ֥י יָמַ֛י אֵלֵ֖כָה בְּשַׁעֲרֵ֣י שְׁא֑וֹל פֻּקַּ֖דְתִּי יֶ֥תֶר שְׁנוֹתָֽי׃Is 38:10
I said, “In the middle of my life I go into the gates of Sheol.
I am deprived of the residue of my years.”
11Is 38:1111εἶπα οὐκέτι οὐ μὴ ἴδω τὸ σωτήριον τοῦ θεοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς οὐ μὴ ἴδω ἄνθρωπον μετὰ κατοικούντωνIs 38:11
I said, “I won’t see Yah,
Yah in the land of the living.
I will see man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
Is 38:11Is 38:11אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙ לֹא־אֶרְאֶ֣ה יָ֔הּ יָ֖הּ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ הַחַיִּ֑ים לֹא־אַבִּ֥יט אָדָ֛ם ע֖וֹד עִם־י֥וֹשְׁבֵי חָֽדֶל׃Is 38:11
I said, “I won’t see Yah,
Yah in the land of the living.
I will see man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
12Is 38:1212ἐξέλιπον ἐκ τῆς συγγενείας μου κατέλιπον τὸ λοιπὸν τῆς ζωῆς μου ἐξῆλθεν καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ ὥσπερ ὁ καταλύων σκηνὴν πήξας τὸ πνεῦμά μου παρ’ ἐμοὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἱστός ἐρίθου ἐγγιζούσης ἐκτεμεῖνIs 38:12
My dwelling is removed,
and is carried away from me like a shepherd’s tent.
I have rolled up, like a weaver, my life.
He will cut me off from the loom.
From day even to night you will make an end of me.
Is 38:12Is 38:12דּוֹרִ֗י נִסַּ֧ע וְנִגְלָ֛ה מִנִּ֖י כְּאֹ֣הֶל רֹעִ֑י קִפַּ֨דְתִּי כָאֹרֵ֤ג חַיַּי֙ מִדַּלָּ֣ה יְבַצְּעֵ֔נִי מִיּ֥וֹם עַד־לַ֖יְלָה תַּשְׁלִימֵֽנִי׃Is 38:12

I waited patiently until morning.
He breaks all my bones like a lion.
From day even to night you will make an end of me.
Is 38:13Is 38:13שִׁוִּ֤יתִי עַד־בֹּ֙קֶר֙ כָּֽאֲרִ֔י כֵּ֥ן יְשַׁבֵּ֖ר כָּל־עַצְמוֹתָ֑י מִיּ֥וֹם עַד־לַ֖יְלָה תַּשְׁלִימֵֽנִי׃Is 38:13

I chattered like a swallow or a crane.
I moaned like a dove.

Lord, I am oppressed.
Be my security.”
Is 38:14Is 38:14כְּס֤וּס עָגוּר֙ כֵּ֣ן אֲצַפְצֵ֔ף אֶהְגֶּ֖ה כַּיּוֹנָ֑ה דַּלּ֤וּ עֵינַי֙ לַמָּר֔וֹם אֲדֹנָ֖י עָֽשְׁקָה־לִּ֥י עָרְבֵֽנִי׃Is 38:14
I chattered like a swallow or a crane.

Is 38:15Is 38:15מָֽה־אֲדַבֵּ֥ר וְאָֽמַר־לִ֖י וְה֣וּא עָשָׂ֑ה אֶדַּדֶּ֥ה כָל־שְׁנוֹתַ֖י עַל־מַ֥ר נַפְשִֽׁי׃Is 38:15
What will I say?
He has both spoken to me, and himself has done it.

16Is 38:1616κύριε περὶ αὐτῆς γὰρ ἀνηγγέλη σοι καὶ ἐξήγειράς μου τὴν πνοήν καὶ παρακληθεὶς ἔζησαIs 38:16
Lord, men live by these things;
and my spirit finds life in all of them:
you restore me, and cause me to live.
Is 38:16Is 38:16אֲדֹנָ֖י עֲלֵיהֶ֣ם יִֽחְי֑וּ וּלְכָל־בָּהֶן֙ חַיֵּ֣י רוּחִ֔י וְתַחֲלִימֵ֖נִי וְהַחֲיֵֽנִי׃Is 38:16
Lord, men live by these things;
and my spirit finds life in all of them:
you restore me, and cause me to live.
17Is 38:1717εἵλου γάρ μου τὴν ψυχήν ἵνα μὴ ἀπόληται καὶ ἀπέρριψας ὀπίσω μου πάσας τὰς ἁμαρτίας μουIs 38:17
Behold, for peace I had great anguish,
but you have in love for my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption;
for you have cast all my sins behind your back.
Is 38:17Is 38:17הִנֵּ֥ה לְשָׁל֖וֹם מַר־לִ֣י מָ֑ר וְאַתָּ֞ה חָשַׁ֤קְתָּ נַפְשִׁי֙ מִשַּׁ֣חַת בְּלִ֔י כִּ֥י הִשְׁלַ֛כְתָּ אַחֲרֵ֥י גֵוְךָ֖ כָּל־חֲטָאָֽי׃Is 38:17
Behold, for peace I had great anguish,

For Sheol can’t praise you.
Death can’t celebrate you.
Those who go down into the pit can’t hope for your truth.
Is 38:18Is 38:18כִּ֣י לֹ֥א שְׁא֛וֹל תּוֹדֶ֖ךָּ מָ֣וֶת יְהַלְלֶ֑ךָּ לֹֽא־יְשַׂבְּר֥וּ יֽוֹרְדֵי־ב֖וֹר אֶל־אֲמִתֶּֽךָ׃Is 38:18
For Sheol can’t praise you.
Death can’t celebrate you.
Those who go down into the pit can’t hope for your truth.
19Is 38:1919οἱ ζῶντες εὐλογήσουσίν σε ὃν τρόπον κἀγώ ἀπὸ γὰρ τῆς σήμερον παιδία ποιήσω ἃ ἀναγγελοῦσιν τὴν δικαιοσύνην σου κύριε τῆς σωτηρίας μουIs 38:19
The living, the living, he shall praise you, as I do this day.
The father shall make known your truth to the children.
Is 38:19Is 38:19חַ֥י חַ֛י ה֥וּא יוֹדֶ֖ךָ כָּמ֣וֹנִי הַיּ֑וֹם אָ֣ב לְבָנִ֔ים יוֹדִ֖יעַ אֶל־אֲמִתֶּֽךָ׃Is 38:19

Yahweh will save me.
Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of Yahweh.

Yahweh will save me.
Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of Yahweh.
